About us

The lost, unwanted and stray animals of Bristol are cared for by Bristol Dogs and Cats Home and the RSPCA Bristol Clinic in St. Philips. Both of these facilities are run by the RSPCA Bristol and District Branch which is independent from the National RSPCA. Animals are brought in by RSPCA Inspectors, Animal Collection Officers, Dog Wardens and members of the public. Healthy or sick, young or old, all animals are welcome and cared for by dedicated and experienced staff and volunteers. The facilities at the Clinic and Dogs and Cats Home allow us to treat and rehome literally thousands of animals each year. However, our annual running costs exceed £2 million. To meet these costs, we rely entirely on the support of the public through fundraising, donations and legacies.

Our mission

The Bristol & District Branch of the RSPCA is committed to preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to animals. We aim to reduce animal suffering and increase animal well-being through our activities.

130th Anniversary

This year marks 130 years since our founder Edward T Parker established “The Bristol Home for Lost and Starving Dogs” in Waterloo Street, St Philips, after finding a stray puppy in the snow and realising there was nowhere for it to go. We have been here to support Bristol’s animals in need ever since. In celebration of this, we have added three additional events to our events calendar, two of which you will cover during your internship, a pet blessing service and our 130th ceremonial walk.

We are also challenging 130 people to raise over £130 each as part of our #130for130 fundraising campaign. We have team members raising money in a huge variety of ways… from soup lunches, wedding collections and quizzes, all the way through to colourful rainbow discos and paint obstacle races. You will help to cultivate these community fundraisers, supporting them in a variety of ways, as well as helping to recruit new fundraisers to the campaign.
