16/03/2015 - Fantastic Family Event this Sunday!!

Open Doors at RSPCA Bristol Branch

As part of 20th Anniversary celebrations, our entire charity (the Clinic and Bristol Dogs & Cats Home) is offering the opportunity for you to see what goes on behind closed doors, with our Open Doors and Dogs Home Tours event, taking place on Sunday 22nd March.

Jill Roynon, Fundraising Manager said, “This is a great chance for our supporters to take a look at life in Bristol’s biggest animal welfare charity! We will be opening up areas rarely seen by members of the public, giving everyone the opportunity to learn more about our fantastic facilities and the important work of caring for unwanted, lost and injured local animals.”

Although Bristol Dogs and Cats Home has been an established part of the city for over 125 years, the services of the RSPCA Bristol Clinic are largely unknown. The Clinic provides an emergency 24 hour veterinary service for lost and sick stray animals, subsidised veterinary treatment for people on a low income, a first aid centre for wildlife casualties and ‘well dog’ clinics for the animals of homeless people. It is the largest branch clinic in the country, administering over 12,000 treatments to ill and injured animals every year. Allowing the public to explore areas that they would never normally see, promises to captivate visitors of any age.

Also this year we will be launching our ICU 20th Anniversary Appeal to help fund the refurbishment of one of the Clinic’s most vital services – our Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Jill continued, “Visitors will learn more about the wonderful work of our Clinic, in particular our Intensive Care Unit which is one of the most important and busiest areas of the Clinic, with approximately 500 animals relying on its lifesaving treatment each year.

Our Dogs Home will also be a hive of activity, with stalls, games and refreshments. There will be ‘meet & Greets’ with some of our friendly residents and a chance to go on a guided tour around the Home. It really will be a great family day out. So please join us and help make a difference to animals less fortunate.”

The RSPCA Bristol Branch is independent from the National RSPCA and relies entirely on the support from the local community through donations, legacies and fundraising events to continue our important work.

Open Doors and Dogs Home Tours will be taking place at our centre based in St. Philips on Sunday 22nd March from 10am until 3pm. Entry costs £2 for adults and £1 for children. Free parking is available.
