Update:

We are delighted to announce that we have raised the funds required to start construction on our roof! This means that all funds raised above what is needed for the roof will go towards funding our important work such as providing veterinary care & treatments, food, toys and treats, as well as helping with our every day costs such as electricity and water bills. You can find the full update at the bottom of this page - thank you to every one that has supported this appeal for your pawesome generosity!

Support us in our 130th year! This year we are hoping to raise enough money for a roof for our dogs play area. This will allow the dogs to exercise off lead, train and play in all weathers.

Many things have changed in the way we work over the past 130 years. However, some things remain constant. Edward T Parker was moved to start the Bristol Home for Lost and Starving Dogs after seeing a little puppy walking through a snow storm with nowhere to go to escape the cold.

This winter, little Jessica, a Staffordshire Bull Terrier puppy was found alone, walking around the freezing streets of Bristol, before someone brought her to us. Thanks to the loving care and attention of all our staff, Jessica was soon warm, with food in her belly and on her way to full health. She quickly found a loving new home! It just goes to show that the years may have passed, but sadly the demand for our help has not gone away!

Since 1887, we have constantly developed our site to adapt to changing needs and make sure that we are providing the best possible resources for the lives of the animals we care for.

Our hopes for 2017 - The Anniversary Appeal

This year we are hoping to raise enough money for a roof for our dogs play area. This will allow the dogs to exercise off lead, train and play in all weathers. This roof will cost just over £6,000 and we believe it will greatly increase the wellbeing of the animals in our care.

All donations towards this roof are greatly appreciated and will allow us to, as with the addition of electricity and new beds in years gone by, continue to improve our site for animals present and future.

If we are lucky enough to raise the full amount required for this roof, every additional penny will go towards treats, toys, veterinary care & treatments and general running costs, such as electricity and water bills, which are required to look after the animals in our care.

Appeal update:

We wanted our dogs to be able to use this outdoor off-lead exercise space whatever the weather. We needed to raise just over £6,000 to put this plan into place.

We have been overwhelmed by the response to this appeal and are delighted to say that so far the appeal has raised an incredible £10,602.33! Thank you to everyone that has donated to this appeal - we predict a lot of wagging tails when we break the news to the dogs in our care!

Thanks to our wonderful donors, we will soon be able to start constructing the roof which will give our dogs protection from the blazing sun, slippery rain, and dangerous frost that currently prevent us from using this space. We will let you all know when it is ready for use – keep an eye out for more updates and pictures!

As stated in the appeal, all costs raised above what is needed for the roof will go towards our every day running costs including veterinary treatments, toys, treats, and costs such as electricity and water bills.

Thank you so much for supporting our special 130th Anniversary Appeal! With your help, we are able to keep working for Bristol’s animals in need.
